Wacker BH55
Petrol Stake Driver

The industry-standard tool for driving marquee stakes — supplied with the right cup for the job.

Driving 42" or 48" high alloy stakes into compacted ground by hand is slow, hard on the crew, and inconsistent. The Wacker BH55 is the tool most professional marquee companies reach for — 55 joules of impact energy per stroke, purpose-built percussion mechanism, and a weight that one person can carry and operate without a second pair of hands.

Hogan Stakes UK supplies the BH55 with a stake driving cup machined to fit Tiger Stakes — 1" (25mm) and 1.125" (28.5mm) diameter. You don't need to source a compatible cup separately, and you don't need to adapt a chisel that wasn't designed for a round-headed stake.

  • Wacker Neuson BH55 petrol breaker — 55J impact energy
  • Supplied with Hogan-compatible stake driving cup (1" and 1.125")
  • 2-stroke Wacker WM80 engine — 1.6kW rated output
  • Full-hood vibration damping — reduced HAV transmission
  • 1.8L fuel tank — long working intervals between refuels
  • 26kg operating weight — single operator
  • Self-cleaning percussion system — low maintenance on site
  • First regrease required after 40 hours of operation

Why This Tool

Consistent Driving Depth, Every Stake

Hand-driving 42" or 48" high alloy stakes into hard or compacted ground takes significant effort per stake. Over a full installation — 60 to 120 stakes on a large setup — inconsistent driving depth and crew fatigue affect how well each stake seats. A stake that has not reached full working depth is not delivering the pull-out resistance the installation assumes.

The BH55 drives stakes to consistent depth with repeatable percussion energy. The mechanism applies controlled downward force along the stake axis — which is the correct direction for a straight, undistorted entry. Crews that have moved from manual driving to petrol typically report significantly faster installation times on hard ground, and more consistent stake seating across the whole site.

The cup matters as much as the tool. A flat chisel, a badly fitted adapter, or a cup with the wrong internal diameter can deform the stake head, deflect the driving force, or seat inconsistently. The cup supplied by Hogan is machined to fit Tiger Stakes heads — driving force is distributed correctly across the head face, not concentrated at an edge.

FAQ

Common Questions

Why is the driving cup important — can I use a standard chisel?

A flat chisel will drive a stake, but it contacts the stake head at the edges rather than distributing force across the face. On a round-headed stake like Tiger Stakes, this can concentrate impact stress in a small area of the head, potentially causing deformation over time. The Hogan driving cup seats flush over the stake head — the full face takes the percussion energy, distributed evenly. This protects the stake head and ensures the driving force is applied vertically rather than at an off-axis point.

Does the BH55 work with all Tiger Stake sizes?

Yes. The Hogan driving cup supplied with the BH55 is compatible with Tiger Stakes in both available diameters — 1" (25mm) and 1.125" (28.5mm) — across all five lengths: 30", 36", 42", 48", and 60". If you are driving a mix of sizes on the same site, one cup handles both diameters.

How long does a tank of fuel last on a full installation?

The 1.8-litre tank gives a long working interval between refuels — depending on ground conditions and driving depth, a full tank covers a significant proportion of a standard marquee installation. In harder ground the engine works harder and fuel consumption increases; in softer ground you'll get more stakes per tank. Wacker specifically designed the tank capacity to allow uninterrupted working intervals, and the BH55 can be refuelled horizontally or upright without special positioning.

What maintenance does the BH55 require?

The BH55 uses a self-cleaning percussion system that keeps maintenance requirements low. The first regrease is not required until after 40 hours of operation — well beyond what most hire companies would accumulate in a single season of weekend events. Standard 2-stroke maintenance applies: fresh mixed fuel, air filter checks, and the manufacturer's service schedule. Full service documentation is available from Wacker Neuson UK.

Is the BH55 suitable for tight access or working around marquee poles?

The BH55 is designed as an entry-level breaker with a compact form factor and balanced handle for single-person operation. At 26kg and with a stable handle design, most experienced operators find it manageable in the access conditions typical of a marquee site. For very tight corners or anchor positions close to poles, hand-driving with a post driver may still be more practical — the BH55 earns its place on the main anchor positions and high-load stakes where depth and consistency matter most.

Used With This Tool

Tiger Stakes — What You're Driving

The BH55 is supplied with a cup matched to Tiger Stakes. High alloy steel with a patented heat drawn point — designed to drive straight and extract clean.

Driving cup included for these stakes

Tiger Stakes 42" × 1.125"

The most common size for hard ground, clearspan baseplates, and high-tension sailcloth positions. High alloy steel, heat drawn point. The driving cup supplied with the BH55 is matched to this diameter.

Tiger Stakes 48 inch high alloy steel
Compatible — 1.125″ diameter

Tiger Stakes 48" × 1.125"

Higher-load positions, soft ground, and large structure anchor points where extra embedment depth is needed. Reaching full working depth on 48" stakes by hand in hard ground is where the BH55 makes the biggest difference.

Stake Driving Cup

The Wacker Neuson OEM driving cup. 32×160mm hex shank, 62mm internal diameter. Seats flush over the Tiger Stake head and distributes percussion force evenly. Available separately for companies already running a BH55 or compatible breaker.

Pull Test Indicator

After driving, a pull test confirms the stake has reached adequate holding depth and the ground is performing as expected. Digital display in kilograms, wireless HOLD remote, CE marked. The BH55 gets the stake in — the indicator confirms it's doing its job.
