Protective marquee stake caps — visible safety markers for exposed anchor positions at public events
Stake Caps
Required where stakes are exposed. Simple, visible, and easily missed until an HSE inspection.
MUTA guidance and standard event industry practice require that exposed stake positions are marked or covered at public events. A stake head at ground level — particularly at night, on wet grass, or in busy pedestrian areas — is a trip and injury hazard. Stake caps cover the exposed head, provide a visible marker, and demonstrate that the site has been managed to the expected standard.
In practice, stakes that have been driven fully to depth with no head above ground don't need capping. The issue arises on harder ground where full embedment cannot be reached, on angled stakes where the head remains above surface, and at the perimeter of structures in public-facing areas. A bag of caps in the site kit costs very little to manage — and the absence of them is noted.
- White — very visible against grass, dark ground, and uneven surfaces
- Suitable for weddings and high-end events — white caps sit cleanly alongside white wedding canvases and marquee fabrics
- Fits over exposed Tiger Stake heads
- Meets MUTA guidance requirement to mark exposed anchor points
- Lightweight — carry in bulk, fit at the end of the installation
- No tools needed — push on by hand
Exposed Stakes at Public Events
The MUTA Best Practice Guide (BPG2) requires that all anchor points at ground level are marked or covered where the public may come into contact with them. Stake caps are the standard way to comply — they cover the head, reduce the trip hazard, and make the anchor position visible.
This matters most at the perimeter of structures in pedestrian circulation areas, at after-dark events where ground conditions are harder to see, in areas adjacent to catering or entertainment where guests may move towards the structure's guy lines, and on uneven or wet ground where the stakes are already at the margin of visibility.
- Public-facing perimeter positions where guests may approach the structure
- Evening and overnight events with reduced visibility
- Hard ground where stakes seat short and heads remain exposed
- Events covered by a structural engineer's risk assessment or public liability documentation
- Any site where the event licence or venue requires documentation of safety measures

Common Questions
Do I need stake caps at public events?
MUTA guidance and standard event industry practice require that exposed stake positions are marked or covered where the public may come into contact with them. An unmarked stake head at ground level — particularly at night or on wet grass — is a trip and injury hazard. Stake caps provide both physical protection and visual marking. Whether or not they are strictly required by your event licence, capping exposed stakes is the responsible and expected standard. If you are operating under a structural engineer's risk assessment or public liability documentation, capping exposed anchors is likely to be explicitly required.
Do these caps fit Tiger Stake sizes?
The caps are designed to fit over exposed stake heads compatible with Tiger Stakes. Get in touch to confirm sizing for the specific Tiger Stake sizes you are using — 1″ (26mm) or 1.125″ (29mm) diameter.
What about stakes that are fully driven flush?
Stakes driven fully to target depth with no head above ground don't need capping — there is nothing to trip over. Caps are specifically for anchor positions where the stake head remains exposed above ground level, which occurs on harder ground where full embedment cannot be reached, or where the staking angle results in a protruding head. In practice, any installation on harder UK ground will have some positions where caps are needed.
How many caps should I carry per installation?
On typical UK ground, plan on capping at least the perimeter positions of any public-facing structure. In harder ground where stakes commonly seat short, cap all driven positions. Carrying more than you expect to use costs very little in weight and vehicle space, and running short on site is easily avoided. Get in touch for quantity pricing.
